Since October 1990 the National Catholic Education Commission has employed a cataloguer to catalogue religious education (RE) materials for entry to the SCIS database. In the first year of operation, 1,000 records were added to the SCIS database.

Any Catholic school or institution within Australia is able to make direct use of the agency. Schools and institutions are encouraged to send RE items, after making an appointment, to the NCEC cataloguer for entry onto the SCIS database. All material added is on loan from schools and institutions and published later than 1982. A three or four week turnaround time is anticipated.
